Each year Port Stephens is the ideal location to witness the annual Whale Migration on the ‘Humpback Highway’. Up to 30,000 Whales make the journey to the warmer waters in the north to mate and calve, before returning along the same route heading south back to Antarctica.

Port Stephens whale watching season runs between May – October, with the best times being between June / July and September / October.

Where can I see whales in Port Stephens?

Spotting whales in Port Stephens is easy and can be done either from land or sea. For getting up close, you cannot beat joining one of the many Whale Watching cruises departing from d’Albora Marinas where our office is located on Dock C. Alternatively you can visit one of the many local lookouts.

What time of day is whale watching best?

You can spot whales any time of the day, with cruises departing mornings and afternoons. Though be sure to check the weather forecast ( it is winter ).
